Kenya continued to impress at the 2025 African Youth Games in Luanda, Angola, after adding three more bronze medals on Tuesday to take the country’s total medal tally to 14.

‎Judo duo Rael Kulova and Harun Amin claimed two bronze medals, while Kinoti Kiara delivered the third bronze in sabre fencing, boosting Kenya’s overall haul to four gold, three silver and seven bronze medals.

‎Kulova produced a strong performance in the Under-48kg category, edging out her Nigerian opponent with a yuko to secure the bronze.

The 16-year-old, ranked 93rd globally among juniors and 233rd in the senior category, capped off a successful year that also saw her win gold at the Casablanca Cadet African Cup in Morocco in January.

‎The rising judoka now has her sights set on representing Kenya at the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar.

‎Harun Amin also enjoyed a memorable continental debut, first scoring a waza-ari against his Senegalese opponent before sealing the bronze medal with a decisive ippon.

‎Kenya Under-17 judo head coach Alice Chebet praised the young athletes, saying the results show the growing strength of judo in the country.

‎National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) president Shadrack Maluki, who also serves as Africa Judo Chairman, emphasised the importance of spreading investment and support across different sports to grow Kenya’s medal success.

‎The African Youth Games continue in Luanda, with Kenya expected to feature strongly in more disciplines as the competition progresses.
